In Hill Climb Racing 2, your current Rank determines which Cups you have unlocked, as well as allows you to access particular features such as the Scrapper, Public Events, the ability to join or create Teams, and even the ability to join a specific Team. This helps other players determine how long you've been playing for, how fast you grow in Hill Climb Racing 2, and what you are capable of doing. Prior to update 1.58.0, you could unlock every vehicle throughout the trophy road. But following the update, you can only unlock certain vehicles in this way (7 to be exact, excluding Hill Climber). The following table shows the ranks and unlockables:

Upon hitting Legendary, you transition into the seasonal progression system. Progression is then made by winning ranked cups, which will award you with rank points. After a pre-set number of rank points are achieved, you will move up to the next Legendary ranking.
Since the 1.55.3 update, progressing system in cups has been updated. New rankings based on cups placements are as follows:
- 1st place = +200 points
- 2nd place = +150 points
- 3rd place = +100 points
- 4th place = +0 points
- Exiting mid-cup through the pause popup = -100 points
Progression between rank types (i.e., between Bronze III to Silver I, 9000 to 10000) must be achieved by winning a boss battle. Boss battles are one on one races against powerful AI controlled opponents, generated by your personal best times, known as Mackie, Champ, Bling, Frank, and Nikita, specifically placed in that order. They can quite often be very tough. You must defeat them, which will allow you to progress to the next rank. Losing to them will allow you to try again instantly with a different boss. Since the 1.55.3 update, you don't have to play multiple cups before recovering back to battle a boss (thanks FS!)
Tasks[ | ]
Tasks are also another way of progressing rank in Hill Climb Racing 2. For every task completed, you will get 100 points added to your total rank, which will allow you to unlock prizes, vehicles, cups, and higher ranks much faster than just racing cups all day. However, while a boss level you are not going to be rewarded with those points until beat the level. More information about tasks here.
